Sockception

March 14, 2011

Last Wednesday we bid farewell to Ryan and our friends in the Hobo Banned, they will be out on a national tour until mid-April (check out their tour dates @ sgtdunbar.com). We thought that performing a 15 minute sock puppet interpretation of “Inception” would be the best way to send them off. Eh, there were probably better ways, but that’s all we could come up with. (Un)fortunately our friend Katie Broadwell caught most of it on video, thanks Katie! We also performed a handful of actual songs and a brand new jam “Big Apple 3 a.m.”, expect to hear that one at our next couple of shows… at which we will be mostly playing music. We’re looking forward to the rest of March and the start of some nice weather!

10…9…8…

December 16, 2010

Well, 2010 it’s been a good one! We released our first full-length album, played about 25 shows, opened up for Titus Andronicus, and headlined the first night of the inaugural Restoration Festival. There were some zombies, some vampires, feline dictators, glow in the dark facepaint, lasers, and a big green monster. All in all, we had a heck of a time and we want to thank everyone who came out and partied, put us up for the night, and/or picked up a copy of our cd!

Although BEWARE! will not be performing again until January 8th, members Matt, Kamran and Ryan will join some friends (including Dan M. from Barons in the Attic) for an insanely epic set of chart topping hits. Expect the unexpected. We’ll be joined by Barons in the Attic, Steer, Summer People, and Barrow Burrow as well as a dance party straight into the early morning! We’ll have both floors at Valentine’s shaking as well as free champagne and pizza! Definitely come check this one out! 18+, 8:00pm, $7 and the facebook page is here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=138668536188795

Looking into 2010: we’ve got one heck of a party January 8th in Troy at our favorite DIY space – 51 3rd st. (Troy Bike Rescue). We’ll be playing with Cattle Drums (Oneonta, NY), SIRS (Purchase, NY), and TBR in house party-starters Crossbow (featuring the inimitable Ryan Jenkins). It’s a steal at only $5! Doors at 8pm! You can check out the facebook event page here for more details: http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=177801338914643

Also, the new myspace is horrible. I mean, it’s been bad for years but their ‘shows’ feature worked great! Now all that has changed, so we’re not sure what we’re going to do about that. In the meantime we’ll be posting all upcoming events on the blog and also on our facebook page here: http://www.facebook.com/#!/bewaretheotherheadofscience

Have a very happy New Year and we’ll see you soon!
Love,
BEWARE!

3rd Annual Halloween Freak-Out!

October 25, 2010

3rd Halloween Freak-Out

This Friday, October 29th will see the 3rd incarnation of the Annual Halloween Freak-Out at Valentine’s, which will once again see B3nson’s own Sgt Dunbar and BEWARE! the Other Head of Science team up with local faves Sea of Trees. This year Albany up-and-comer’s Around the World and Back will also join the bill (check them out currently on the cover of Metroland!). The past 2 years have been quite the party and this year will prove to be no different; prepare for tricks, treats, and an evening of great music! There will be prizes for the best costume and if last year was any indication, this year will have some serious competition. Step up your game, folks!

We’ll See you There!

Busy! Rest Fest and more!

August 13, 2010

Ahhhhh! It has been a while since we’ve blogged, but I promise to you that we have been busy. We opened up for Titus Andronicus in July with Hallejeluah the Hills. If you have not checked out either of those bands, please do so. They were very nice and fun people and ‘The Monitor’ is one of my favorite albums of the year so far. We also performed at SAW Fest a few weeks back and that was a ton of fun. Many thanks to everyone to worked to put that event on and thanks to everyone who came out and danced hard! We recorded a new song ‘I Only Date Girls that Look Like Carrie Fisher’ at Boomstick Recording Studio in Warwick with our friend Jeffro (of Paper Ships). We are very pleased with the results. You can stream it over at our Myspace Page and it will be available on an upcoming compilation to promote the Restoration Funstival (Rest Fest) at the end of August. Which brings us to our final topic:

Buy your tickets for REST FEST at restfest.net! 2 days of great local music from 16+ bands with art from regional artists, multimedia performances, and food from local businesses in a surreal and historical setting deep in the heart of Albany. The Festival is being presented by the B3nson Recording Company in conjunction with the Historic Albany Society as well as help from 97.7 WEXT, 90.0 WCDB, alloveralbany.com, and local record stores Last Vestige and the Beat Shop. The Festival will take place at St. Joseph’s Church at 38 Ten Broeck st. in Albany on Saturday August 28th and Sunday August 29th. This historic landmark is a sight all on it’s own with original painting, carvings, stained glass and magnificent architecture. Add some of the regions most distinguished musicians, artwork from across the region and good food (and a beer garden!) and it suddenly becomes the most exciting event in the Capital Region!

The Festivities start at 12:00pm both days and will run until about 11pm. This event is all ages, but children under 16 must be accompained by a guardian. You will need your ID’s for will-call if you order tickets online and if you wish to enter the beer garden. You can also pick up tickets at Last Vestige (173 Quail st., Albany) or at the Beat Shop (197 River st., Troy). Tickets for this event are currently $15 for the whole weekend or $10 per day. it’s quiet, too quiet…

January 22, 2010

This is the calm before the storm. There are many things that we cannot wait to share with you. Unfortunately, now is not yet the right time.

I will, however, divulge the following information:

Our CD is finished. It was a grueling process, but after a lot of hard work on everyone’s part we are very pleased with the outcome.

Dates for our upcoming tour in March are starting to firm up. We will be stopping in Southern NY, Cleveland OH, and will be opening up for This Bike Is A Pipe Bomb in Houston, TX. Anyone with friends or family in Nashville, TN or Austin, TX, please get in touch with us. We could use some help in these areas. We will also be playing out like crazy in the Northeast after we get back from tour. Anyone who wants us in their town should contact us at beware@b3nson.net

Jesse found this on the ‘ol interweb. We found it to be amusinghttp://backfortypresents.wordpress.com/2010/01/16/myspace-connections-journey-through-music-profiles/

We will be seeing you soon.

Triple Release at V-Tine’s

November 25, 2009

All sorts of things are going on here at camp BEWARE! like tons of recording, prep for our spring tour, and other exciting projects. No shows for the rest of 2009, we’re getting our act together and getting this record DONE!

However, some exciting BEWARE! related performances are coming up. On December 4th our own Tristan Buzzkill of the one-man band Littlefoot will be celebrating the release of his debut full-length ‘If You Give A Grouch A Guitar’ at Valentine’s (Albany, NY). Alongside him will be our own Richard Nolan and Ryan Stewart’s The Boston Celtics, who will also be releasing their new CD ‘The End of Mont Pleasant’ the same night. As if that wasn’t enough, our good friends in The Hoborchestra will be performing and releasing a new set of recordings as well. GADS! Head on over to B3nson.net for all the details!
